NOV-2009- WCAF SUCCESS! Another great event done and dusted!

Soulful Gallery had a great time at the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair last weekend.
Mark and Lorna worked their socks off to sell lots of our art (both prints and originals!) in the exhibition area, the workshops went down a storm with Amonamission running 3 x hour-long classes in graffiti and street art and the live art/mural (by chang204 and myself) attracted a lot of attention too.
The past 3 months has been dedicated to preparing everything for the event, including each artist creating a series of original art works, as well as the construction of a 6 metre chipboard wall (thanks Pete!) to do our mural on.
We also had to pre-spray any graffiti before hand due to the fact that it was an indoor event which prevented us from using large amount of spray paint on the weekend.
A Massive "Thank You" to everyone who helped us out, from filming to setup/take-down.
Here are some of the pictures from the event.

OCT 2009: PREPARATIONS FOR WINDSOR CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR 2009!!

It's been a while since I last blogged but the past few months have been dedicated to preparing a new body of work for the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair as well as lots of new commissions! We all decided to create original works of art as well as selling our digital prints and I can't wait to show off all our hard work....it's looking amazin'!!
The last Soulful gallery event (see below) was a real success and this promises to be even better!! As well as live mural painting we are running graffiti workshops for folks (see the flyer, left)

"Come join the Soulful Gallery at the Windsor Contemporary Art Fair on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November 2009 at the Royal Windsor Racecourse.

Our resident artists Chang204, Koze, Matt Latchford and Amonamission will once again be out in force – creating a massive 6 metre urban art mural in reception, running graffiti art workshops and of course exhibiting some great new artwork.

This promises to be an exciting weekend with over 100 artists in total showing work including paintings, photography, drawings, sculpture and glasswork with prices ranging from £30 - £3,000.

Harry Potter illustrator, Cliff Wright will also be in residence running drawing workshops for children and adults alike.

And, if that was not enough there is wine tasting, a café and licensed bar to enjoy when looking at art becomes all too much!

You’ll find the Soulful Gallery’s latest art work on Stand 64, and of course we’ll be in reception creating the urban art mural and running the workshops.

Tickets for the fair are available on the door for £6/£4 concessions, and children under 12 get in for free. There is also plenty of free parking."

It's gunna be good!

JUNE 09: "SAMPLED" contemporary dance and art installation

I had an amazing evening creating live visuals in the bar of  Windsor's Firestation Arts Centre, as part of 4motion Dance Theatre's   show "Sampled".
People packed out the place to see Dance, Live art (both digital and material!) and live music (see the attached flyers and credits).
I have also attached my final, weird illustration. I really enjoyed creating it, especially coz I was up in the DJ booth along side DJ Al and music producer Dave Darch, A.k.a AweKid who was rocking some dark and funky soundscapes. I hope he's not too insulted by the crazy direction of my image...it was directly inspired by his tunes!
I was working via photoshop on me laptop and projecting onto the bar wall.
Loved every minute!

23rd-24th MAY 2009: SOULFUL GALLERY AND COLLECTIVE LAUNCH

I am proud to announce that the new urban art collective 'Soulful Gallery' (of which I am a proud member) enjoyed our debut exhibition with a live graffiti/illustration demonstration and an art gallery selling limited edition prints and original works of our art.

The event took place at the Village Life arts and crafts Centre nr Reading where the public could watch myself and Chang 204 'decorate' a London Underground tube train! In fact the train was on an enormous piece of canvas which had been pre-painted (full size!!)by the  collective's founding member Mark 'Koze' Crowther.

APRIL 09: Rusty can-control and samurai Tatts!

Fresh off the back of my exhibition, I was invited to paint some characters at a local youth centre with an old mate who happens to be a graffiti genius!
It was my  first tentative steps back into graff, not having sprayed anything since 1992!! It's not like riding a bike.... it didn't just come back to me, I remembered the drips and sore index finger and getting high as a kite from the fumes...happy days!!
It's a start.

A close friend of mine recently commissioned me to develop one of my images of a Samurai, so he could get a tattoo of it and here it is..... Fresh off the needle!!!! What an honour.

FEB 2009 EXHIBITION BEGINS!!

Finally... all the work is hung, the tubes of paint and brushes dusted off and my exhibition and residency has begun at The Firestation, Windsor .
I have already created a few characters on the walls in time for the official preview evening (weds 11th, 6-8pm) and will probably continue to add to them until I am told to stop!
More pics to follow!

October 2008

It's been a few months since my last post simply because I have had some lovely, great big commissions come my way from Oxford University Press, Richmond Press, Pearson Educational Publishing, and Spec- Savers(!!)

Apart from the spectacles gig, it's all been work for children's educational titles (maths and english), adding funky little characters to the school books etc. It's good fun to do, relatively easy and seems to be a regular thing now...KEEP 'EM COMING!!

JUNE 2008

I have been working with Phil Menni at
Gravy Media to create the website for One EskimO. Phil's the genius who constructs and programs the whole thing but I was asked to illustrate and animate the home page and a few other bits!
Click HERE to check out One EskimO's website!
Gravy were the also producers for 'Hometime' and are currently putting together another team to create the next animation for One EskimO and their track "Kandi".
I am committed to quite a few other illustration commissions, so unfortunately won't be working on the next animation but I'm very proud to see my characters come to life in the hands of someone else!! Good Luck my little Esk ..."sniff'

March 2008

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!
WE WON A BRITISH ANIMATION AWARD!!!
Lucy Sullivan and Myself won the award for the "Public choice: animated Music Video, 2008" category for our work directing and animating One EskimO's track  "Hometime"!
We had to go up on stage to collect our award and got a cuddle from the event's host: Joe Pasquale!!!!!!!
A heartfelt and Massive "THANK YOU" to everyone who voted for us.

UPDATE- Here's some concepts that I couldn't show before:

JAN 08

Happy New Year!!
Some announcements:
Following on from the news that our animation for "Hometime" has been nominated for A British Animation Award 2008, I have some important dates for the preview of our animation :

We are on at the National Film Theatre, London Programme 2, showing Fri. 8th and Sun 17th Feb 2007.

There are quite a few other venues around the UK which you can check out at the BAA website.

Above you can see the official guide to the nominees and my subtle response!!

"Hometime" has also been nominated for an award at Festival Du Clip, France. It's the 2nd time our collective Smuggling Peanuts  has been nominated at the festival. In 2006 we were nominated for 'Best music video' (see an earlier blog) for our work on Coldcut's promo "Just for the Kick".

i was very Kindly asked to talk at a "Creative careers" seminar, a 2 day event for all the schools in the Thames Valley area. I was part of a group of three and we each had to talk about what it's like to earn your daily bread by being creative!!!
there were Dj's. musicians, dancers, actors and actresses, landscape gardeners, artists and many more!
We got a great response form the kids (hats off to them for managing to stay awake!)and their teachers plus it was a great way to network!

DEC 2007 part b

A great way to end the year....Firstly, a nice bit of exposure: The Xmas edition of the Big Issue (no.775) has a great article on One EskimO and features one of my concept sketches of the band (page 10 in case you were wondering!!!!!!)

For the 3rd time this year I have got a little bit of space in Computer Arts (Dec 2007 edition).
I was asked a few questions on how I thought "fine art" influences modern designers, so I gave them my 2 pence worth. Check out pages 76-79!

I've also been messing around with Zbrush a bit more. I've posted another image of some random creature for you to check out.

Finally, I have also been informed that mine and Lucy Sullivan's animated promo for One EskimO's "Hometime" song has been nominated for "Best Music Video" in the Public choice category for the British Animation Awards 2008!!
Happy XMAS!!!
